Ole Miss (14-5) opened its Southeastern Conference season with a victory over No. 20 South Carolina (14-4) on Friday night and the two teams will continue their series on Saturday afternoon at Swayze Field in Oxford, Mississippi. The Rebels have won eight straight games while the Gamecocks had a six-game winning run ended with Friday night's loss. South Carolina advanced to the super regionals last season after missing the NCAA tournament in 2022. Ole Miss failed to reach the NCAA tourney last season after winning the program's first College World Series championship the previous year. The Gamecocks were back-to-back national champions in 2010-11.

The Rebels took the lead on Friday with a two-run double by Luke Hill in the bottom of the sixth and added an insurance run in the seventh to hold off South Carolina 5-4 on Friday night. Three of their five runs came on ground-ball outs. Ethan Lege is slashing .400/.512/.683 for Ole Miss and shares the team lead of 21 RBI with Jackson Ross while Andrew Fischer has six home runs. 

Will Tippett put the Gamecocks up 2-0 in the second with a two-run double and South Carolina led 3-2 before Ole Miss came back. Parker Noland was 2-for-4 and scored twice. Dylan Brewer is hitting .315/.549/.604 while Cole Messina leads the Gamecocks with seven home runs and 19 RBI

Left-hander Liam Doyle is scheduled to start for the Rebels on Saturday. In five appearances and one start, Doyle has allowed three runs and struck out 17 in 8.1 innings. South Carolina goes with right-hander Dylan Eskew, who has made four starts and has a 2.89 ERA and 0.88 WHIP in 18.2 innings.
